When we’re on the farm, Grandma and I don’t wear masks because it’s just us and Farmer Allen is so busy we rarely meet up. So we spend most of our time with the other dogs, the chickens, cows, sheep, and one horse.
For a short while, Grandma and I are visiting a friend in town. Being around more people, Grandma says it’s a good idea to wear a mask. We’re okay, but others are being more careless now and Grandma does not want to invite trouble. She’s pretty smart about that.
“What is that yellow thing, Grandma?” I barked.
“It’s called a mask, but it looks more like a ‘face bra’ to me.”
“You mean, like that car we saw the other day?”
“Yes.”
“I think we’d look cool in a car like that, especially a convertible.”
“Petey, there’s no way we could go to our wild places in a car like that…”
“Just sayin’. Do I have to wear a face bra? That’s stupid.”
“Just when we go out. Now, let’s give it a try.”
It did not go well at first.
“GRANDMA!” I complained.
She tried again.
“That’s a little better. But I still can’t see. And besides, how are you going to know it’s me?” That was a real concern.
She adjusted the mask again. “Just like I do my friends. I look for their sweet eyes.”
“Like this?”
“Exactly! When I see smiling eyes full of love, I’m pretty quick to recognize my friends.”
Grandma always has the best answers.
Petey has a lot of patience to deal with this situation. Thanks for the laughs!
